Analysing Organisational Structure and Performance
Question: Discuss about the Analysing Organisational Structure and Performance. Answer: Introduction: The following paper is going to analyse the organisational structure of Qantas Airways Australia. The analysis is going to be a business level analysis. Qantas Airways is the largest domestic and international airline in Australia. Qantas started its business in the country in the year 2012 on 13th April with the operation of its first commercial flight. The main business of the Qantas group is its airlines brands. Qantas links more than 50 cities in the country and almost all the countries in the world. It has more than two hundred and fifty aircrafts in daily operation among which 160 aircrafts are operated in doemestic purpose and the rest are operated overseas. Qantas Airways have three sister organisations- Qantas, QantasLink and Jetstar. In the organisation, there are more than nine million members and more than four hundred active program partners. As a business and service organisation Qantas has been providing the best service to the Autralian and international customers for more than five years. The loyalty of Qantas has been reportedly successful due to more than 50% household interventions (Australian Competition and Consumer Commission 2017). Brief Idea on Organisational Structure: Organisational structure is a concept or a process by which the program of an organisation is set through allocation of work to the particular organisation members, coordination of the employees in order to confirm the best organisational culture and supervision of work in order to ensure the quality of work done by the employees and the managers. The basic structure of an organisation is set by the directors of it (Ashkenas et al. 2015). Organisational structure is categorised in different segments. The segments vary depending on the designed model of organisation. Basic structure comprises of an individual, it may consist of a department or branch of the company or a workgroup (Watson 2013). Followings are the general categories of the organisational structure: Classification of Organisation Structure of Qantas: The Qantas airways has clearly defined and structured the model of its organisational team in order to confirm specific business practices within it. This is how the corporate governance is practiced. The company has clearly structured the Hierarchy community phenotype model providing different specific roles to the most suitable employees and the teams (Wang 2016). This model follows the both the hierarchical participation and community participation practices in order to strengthen the ladder of community building in the company (Cummings and Worley 2014). Community building is highly prioritised by the present CEOs of Qantas domestic, Qantas International and QantasLink. The Chief Financial Officer of the Qantas Group Tino La Spina has also decided to frame a particular structure of the working employees in the organisation. The recent change of the Chief executive Officers of the Qantas group has been announced by the board of directors who hold the power of ultimate decision mak ing pertaining to the core business practice of the organisation (Perrott 2015). The company has shown its belief on the long term working employees as most of the recruited CEOs and the CFO have been working with the group for more than 15 to twenty years(Qantas.com.au, 2017). Qantas group has specified its departments in the following departments following the standard model of structure in the particular industry- Type of Qantas Organisational Structure: The companys structure is absolutely post-bureaucratic in nature. As the company implements total quality management i.e. culture management and matrix management it definitely falls into that category. According to Shafritz, Ott and Jang (2015), a company falls under post-bureaucratic structure if it has proper formalisation of the working groups, codification of the working rules and ethics and proper enforcement of the terms for the employees. Since, Qantas has been following all the rules and enforcing them stringently and strategically upon the employees, it can be considered as a company having post-bureaucratic structure. The departmental heads of the company enjoys absolute power in making firm decision for the sake of business growth of it (Annosi, Khanagha and Magnusson 2015). The company also follows divisional structure as it empowers the divisional heads to operate divisional functions. Qantas has been working skilfully to ensure work division upon the workers according to the departments. Local coordination between the employees is also taken care of. In the international level, the company has been able to comprise divisive workforce that has successfully linked departments like engineering and finance, attendance and logistics, marketing and human resources. However, every department is held responsible for the success of the other (Qantas.com.au 2017). This model was designed by Griffiths and his scholarly group. They structured the model from the concept of genetics. In terms of management and business, active participation of the workers or the employees in different sectors- formal hierarchical and informal community- is accounted. The model concerns about their mode of community building and way of expression. Qantas Airways has the vast potentiality of involving the employees in formal hierarchical and informal community participation. This is how the company maintains the Hierarchy Community Model (March 2013). Independence of the Directors: The company, while maintaining the terms of the Corporations Act, has been providing ample independence to the directors to determine and take rightful and positive decisions pertaining to the welfare of the company (Homsombat and Fu 2014). In case of corporate governance, continuous development of the directors is a vital part of the company. Diversity is another unique criterion of Qantas Airways while structuring the upper level body i.e. the body of governance. Diversity in leadership has been one of the main focuses of the company while structuring the corporate body (Murray 2014). It has, therefore, created a diversified council for the Chief Executive Officers. The Diversity Council has regular working objective and the council meet together on a regular basis in order to analyse the present business operations as well as to propose future business strategies. In the Financial Year 2015-16 the council was seen o have taken some important initiatives regarding the strategic pla nning on the market as well as on the lower level organisational structure(Qantas.com 2017). Structural policies of the company: The company has created several policies in order to resolve structural problems and issues. This was done in order to highlight whether the employees working in different working communities have any grievances pertaining to the role and governance of the company. However, legitimate grievances are considered from the higher level (Gross and Dreizler 2013). Employee Share Trading policy: This policy is one of the stringent policies made by the company in order to set limitations for the employees from taking part in the higher level governance. The policy was structured to ensure that the employees do not breach the security terms and conditions designed by the organisation (Su, Baird and Schoch 2015). This policy was designed in order to allow the employees make report of the illegal and illegitimate concerns or activities happeing in the different level in the company. This was designed so that the employees remain loyal to the company and set proper working environment (Lucarelli 2014). Influences on Structure: Different company issues and positivity have effective influence on the organisational structure of it (Dischner 2015). Followings are the influences that may have different impacts on the structure of an organisation: Organisational Culture: Qantas Airways is known for its positive culture and behaviour of the employees. The companies are highly motivated to express their urge of creativity. Business Strategy: organisational structure of a company is set according to the desgned business strategy and Qantas is of no exception. From the higher level governance to the class four staff- the company has been structuring and guiding the workforce to provide best service to the customers (Adizes, Cudanov and Rodic 2017). Current Structural Issues: The massive problem that the company has been facing or it is rather worthy to say what the company is criticised for is the frequent change in the managerial workforce division. It has been found that the managers are often shifted or replaced by the new comers. The other issues, which is rather a minor one, is that the company often becomes stringent to maintain its policies. Constant change in the organisational policies has been affecting the structure of the organisation. The effects have attitudes of duality. Conclusion: Organisational structure is one of the key factors behind the success of a company. There are multiple effects of organisational structure- starting from organisational behaviour to the higher level corporate business. Qantas has been one of the largest airliners in the world. This massiveness of the company has different structural design altogether. It has helped the company in measuring performance of it. It can easily be concluded that the organisational structure of Qantas Airways is a cohesive and well designed one affecting the overall performance of the company in a positive way. Night Nurse By Joyce Oates Essays - Grace, Will Grace,
Night Nurse By Joyce Oates After reading Joyce Carol Oates story, " The Night Nurse," revenge is what is found. This story starts off by a woman by the name of Grace Burkhardt, collapsing at a shopping mall because of a reason that was unknown at the time. She is taken in an ambulance to a hospital where she undergoes an emergency surgery for a blood clot that is in her leg that could have traveled to her heart. Grace's stay in the hospital that night was not how she expected. The worst pain a person can indure, is the one who is left out. In the beginning of the story Grace explains herself as being laid back. "I am behaving well, look how calm and civilized" (654). Grace never screamed out at the shopping mall. She tried to act as calm as possible. Even though Grace was in so much pain, she never sobbed to God or never did she ask, "Am I dying? Will I die" (654)? Shortly after the doctors took care of Grace, she went into surgery. After this is when her attitude begins to change. After surgery Grace just lied in bed in so much pain. She cried out "help me.... I'm so cold, I'm so frightened" (654)! This is when the reader notices the shift in Graces attitude. Her attitude shifts into a tone that can practically be heard by the reader. As many times as Grace cried out for help the reader could tell she was desperate. Once the day was over, Grace was about to go through a night that she would never forget. She began to beg God, unlike in the beginning of the story, "Help me through the night" (655). The pain from Grace's surgery was so severe, that she called for a nurse repeatedly. Finally a nurse came in to give her a bedpan so she could urinate. After Grace used the bedpan she waited for the nurse to come back and retrieve it, but she never came back. She needed a nurse also to bring her a blanket because she was freezing cold. Once again there was no nurse to be found. As Grace laid there waiting, she began to drift into her years at college. She thought about her several administrative positions she held during her years at Wells College. During these years people had always praised her. Grace always seemed to be favored by others. Finally Grace saw a nurse standing at the door. Grace wondered why the nurse was just standing there. The nurse finally told Grace her name. It was Harriet Zink. Harriet says her name so the reader can tell there is a conflict occurring. All Grace wanted was a blanket and her bedpan removed, but Harriet replied, "registered nurses aren't required to touch bedpans" (660). This is when the reader can tell Harriet is going to be difficult for Grace to deal with. Once Grace stated, "I am a good person, I am well-liked, respected" (660), is the time the reader finally gets to know what the conflict is between Grace and Harriet. Because of Graces comment about her Harriet begins to show she gets happy every time Grace shows how much pain she is in. This is how the writer lets the reader know revenge is taking place. Back in Harriet's college years she was suppose to be roommates with Grace, but Harriet came late twelve days late into the semester because her mother died. The residential advisor warned Grace and her friends what had happened so they could avoid bringing the subject up. Once Harriet came, her hall had already bonded with others. At this time Harriet was always treated as if she was in the way and there was no room for her. Because of the way she was treated in these college years, it has affected Harriet throughout her life. Deep down inside she knew she would forgive Grace, but she could not stop thinking of her years in college and the pain that she went. Harriet knows that she could stand there and enjoy the pain Grace was going through longer, but she is a better person than that. Grace was in so much pain that night from her surgery. She needed a nurse to come tend to her, but no one would come. After Grace called and called for a nurse, one finally came in to tend to her. This nurse happened to be a person she went to

When to See a Doctor for Bursitis
When to See a Doctor for Bursitis Bursitis is defined as the irritation or inflammation of a bursa (fluid-filled sacs attached to joints). You can often effectively treat bursitis at home. However, in some cases, you may want or need to treat bursitis with some techniques not available at home and require a visit to a doctor. If you have bursitis and you experience a warm swelling, a fever or become sick you may have septic bursitis and should seek medical attention. Septic bursitis needs antibiotic medication to treat it. In the case of non-septic bursitis you should consider seeing a doctor: If the pain becomes severe or is getting progressively worseIf your range of motion is being hampered and the swelling and stiffness is getting worseIf your strength is affectedIf the injury is becoming chronic and never fully alleviates, or commonly reoccursIf methods for preventing bursitis have not proven sufficientIf home treatments are not effectiveIf you can not change your habits or the repetitive stress causing your bursitis is unavoidable What to Expect From Your Doctor If you are seeking medical help for your bursitis then your general practitioner is probably your first stop. Your doctor will need a history of your condition including the symptoms and activities that trigger or worsen the symptoms. Additionally, you should provide your doctor with information about any treatments, over the counter medication or home remedies you have tried and how effective they have been. Your doctor will perform a basic physical examination of the affected area to check for a swollen bursa. Diagnostic imagery is usually not requiredà but is some difficult cases it may be requested. Imagery, such as an X-ray or MRI, can help fill out a comprehensive diagnosis. Once diagnosed your doctor may prescribe treatment or refer you to a specialist. In some cases, your doctor may suggest draining the bursa to reduce the swelling. This can usually be done during the same visit. Your doctor will simply insert a syringe into the bursa and remove some of the fluid. This can provide immediate relief but does not treat the cause of bursitis.ââ¬â¹ When referring you to a specialist your general practitioner will often suggest a physical therapist or occupational therapist. These therapists will develop a treatment regimen of exercise and/or behavioral therapy that should change or remove the repetitive stress that is causing bursitis as well as strengthening the area so it is more robust. What to Bring to Your Doctor Being prepared with a thorough history of your symptoms can help your doctor diagnose your bursitis. Organize your information to help your doctor get through all the pertinent parts in the time usually allotted for an appointment. The information you should have on hand includes: What your symptoms areWhen your symptoms first presented or startedHow severe your symptoms areIf your symptoms come and go or are persistentWhat activities trigger or worsen your symptomsWhat kind of repetitive stress concerning the area of your bursitis you regularly encounterAny candidate causes of bursitis you have identifiedAny injuries within the past 6 months to the area of your bursitisOther medical conditions you currently suffer from or have had in the past, including surgeries When gathering your information, it is beneficial to journal your symptoms. Write down all your symptoms with notes about duration and severity. Use a Visual Analog Pain Scale to track the pain. Make notes of the activities that may contribute to bursitis and what effect they seem to have. Furthermore, write down any treatments and if they have a positive or negative effect. Last, but not least, write down any questions you have for your doctor before your appointment. Patients often get nervous or forget their questions when face to face with their doctor. Write down your questions and make sure you get satisfactory answers before you leave. Dont forget, your doctor is there to help you and you are paying them for that help, so make sure to get your moneys worth.

Criminology Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words - 11
Criminology - Essay Example 59, 60). Social and economic factors in a personââ¬â¢s life play a significant role in the personââ¬â¢s perception on crime. People from respectable social classes will for example perceive crimes as unethical activities that can lead to loss of social ties with friends and relatives. As a result, these individuals will most likely refrain from involvement in criminal activities. A person with poor social conscience will however not care about the societyââ¬â¢s perception over his or her criminal activities. Economic factors are also major causes of crimes. Poverty and unemployment for instance limits peopleââ¬â¢s capacity to provide for their basic needs and wants. As a result, some people engage in criminal activities in order to get finances for the needs (Messner, 2001). Cultural factors, influenced by peer pressure, are other causes of crime in the society. Association with groups with rebellious characteristics particularly transforms people to behaviors of such cultural groups. With a deviant behavior, a person is likely to disobey law and law enforcement officers resulting in criminal activities. Psychological factors also play a role in a personââ¬â¢s decision towards involvement in a criminal activity. The level of motivation in a person for example defines a personââ¬â¢s objectives and economic initiatives that the individual will engage in. While highly motivated individuals will work hard to develop decent professions, poorly motivated individuals lack the drive. As a result, they fail to establish reliable financial background and resort to criminal activities for survival. Negative aspects of ââ¬Å"social, economic, cultural, and psychologicalâ⬠factors therefore cause criminal activities (Messner, 2001, p. 59, 60). A number of factors such as ââ¬Å"cracking down on crime, education, administration, construction, and correctionâ⬠prevent crimes (Messner, 2001, p. 60). Cracking down criminal activities,

Persona Responsibility Essay Essay Example for Free
Persona Responsibility Essay Essay Personal responsibility, in this context, is an important concept composed of these parts: Fist, what the words personal responsibility means to you? Second, what relationship exists between personal responsibility and college success? Last but not least, what preliminary plan do you have to practice personal responsibility in your education? Personal responsibility is a decision that you make to live up to your own ideals and expectations. It also means that you would be accountable for what you say, do, or think. It can also mean self awareness of a person towards the success of oneââ¬â¢s life. Personal responsibility starts inside us and move outwards. We should not blame others for our mistakes. We should start blaming our self if something went wrong that way we can find ways to fix it and move on our life. Also, donââ¬â¢t postpone doing what you can do today, because tomorrow has it own problem to solve; if you can, today is the perfect day to develop your talents. Many students believe that it is a responsibility of the instructors or other students to help them succeed in college. I believe it is me and only me who can achieve my own success. Personal responsibility is accepting what ever consequences come from my actions and understanding how to improve and make necessary changes. By setting personal goals, staying focused, and time management skills, I can achieve college success. A good way to improve my college career is to stay organized. Often times in college, the schedule of classes, and making time for things other than school can be extremely challenging. This requires me to have a good time management skills, keep a detailed schedule of all future deadlines, and to have whatever resources and supplies available and ready to use. The Journalà of College Admission says: ââ¬Å"The student would benefit from using organizational tools, such as planners, calendars, to-do-list, folders, blinders, and dividersâ⬠(Prevatt, Huijun, Welles, 2011, para.). Also, every society, like every family has their rules. If you want to live a better life with no troubles, you have to follow those rules. Following the rules makes your life easier and happy. When it comes to relationship between personal responsibility and college success, we all need to think twice. There is correlation between personal responsibility of the student and their success in college. This relationship exists because personal responsibility directly affects issues that are pertinent to ones life such as family, relationships, education, as well as physical and spiritual well-being of an individual. Personal responsibility determines the success of the student in college for a number of reasons (Charles, 2008). The first, and I think one of the most important, is self-discipline. Personal responsibility is the ability to be in control of ones life in terms of actions, emotions, etc. Students who do not have personal responsibility concerning their lives are prone to influences of doing what others are doing by just following them without proper reasons. This lack of self-control comes about because any individual without a sense of personal responsibility will always be irresponsible. A student without personal responsibility will blame the lecture for failing in the exam when a responsible student with personal responsibility will rather analyze the reasons behind his/her failure and decide to take action to pass the exam. This explains why students who have a sense of personal responsibility have higher scores than those without personal responsibility (Bourbon, 1994). The other factor that makes students who take personal responsibility to succeed in college more than the others who do not take personal responsibility is that they do not allow circumstances to hinder their progress in life. They do have a high sense of self-esteem, which makes them to confront issues critically rather than emotionally. Students who feel that they are not in control pity themselves when they have issues to deal with in their lives thus affecting their physical health negatively. This may lead to absenteeism from classes and even suicidal cases (Charles,à 2008). Students who are aware of the words personal responsibility also manage to delay gratification; itââ¬â¢s the ability to deny oneself pleasure in pursuit of a particular goal. Personal responsibility enables a student to stick out or to persevere in pursuit of academic excellence thereby delaying the enjoyment of pleasures, which may affect the concentration, or peace of mind in pursuit of excellence. Th e delay gratification of pleasures such as drug abuse, sexual relationships, and hooliganism are known to affect studentââ¬â¢s academic performance (Bourbon, 1994). Studying at university is not just about learning a lot of things that are fascinating in themselves but, preparing your future in a work place. At the same time as you develop your knowledge of your subject and the skills required to perform well in it, youââ¬â¢re actually developing a whole range of skills and intellectual abilities that can be transferred to other areas of life, including your future employment. To reach that goal, you have to be hard on yourself; you have to set a study time and respect it no mare what, Study individually is good, but, group study is better because you have more than one ideas and a lot of experiences to take advantage of. You also need an appropriate place with no noise around to be concentrate and do your work. Be strict on your school schedule like you are for the one at wor k. Make sure to do all your assignments on time and make sure that you respect the time you set for your studies. College demand extra work to do. You have to manage your time between your work, your family members, your friends and so on â⬠¦ Time managing is very important if you want to succeed in college. Planning thing ahead can help thing get done early so that you can have enough time to do your school work. As work responsibilities, school has his part too. Study, do assignment on time, participle in group activity, find a good place and time to study. Discipline is a key word I Think to succeed in college. A person cannot succeed if there is not a personal responsibility for what he/she is doing. In order for me to practice my personal responsibility in my education, I need to do my own assignment, do my work on time; donââ¬â¢t wait for someone else to do it for me. If Iââ¬â¢m having troubles understanding a subject, I can as my instructor or a classmate for help for more explanations instead of letting someone else do it for me. Doing your own assignment helps understanding your courses and be successful at the end. References Charles, Chester (2008).
